Any change in the appearance of this mucosa may be a sign of an underlying (local or systemic) disease, sometimes serious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Any suspected signs such as those described here should be shown to a maxillofacial surgeon or stomatologist:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Red (erythroplastic) or white (leukoplastic) spots<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An ulcer that does not heal or bleeds easily<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A bump or thickened skin inside the mouth<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A sore throat or chronic hoarseness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Difficulty swallowing or chewing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These changes may occur in the lips, cheeks, palate, gums, tongue, face or neck. They\u00a0are not always painful, which is why, in case of doubts, it is imperative to consult.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We recommend that you visit your dentist on a regular basis (once a year), who can be alerted by a suspicious lesion and refer you to a maxillofacial surgeon. Remember that the mouth is one of the most important alert systems in the body.
