About the intervention
Implant sites that lack bone volume can be prepared by bone-grafting, from either the patient’s own jawbone or by adding synthetic bone, usually of bovine origin.
Bone grafts can also be performed inside the maxillary sinuses by lifting the sinus when teeth are to be replaced in the posterior region of the upper jaw.
Collagen membranes are often used in addition to the procedure to improve bone healing. These are left under the gingiva during the procedure and are dissolved by themselves during the healing period. They guide the regeneration of newly formed bone.
