Botox is used to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar wrinkles (vertical wrinkles) observed between the eyebrows in adults under 65 years when these wrinkles lead to psychological distress. The basis of treatment consists of the (temporary) paralysis of the facial muscles responsible for expressing wrinkles by the injection of botulinum toxin type A.

INDICATIONS

In particular, Botox, Dysport, Neurobloc and Xeomin are reserved for hospital use and indicated in the treatment of various ailments, mainly neurological (muscle spasms painful jaws, eg). They are reserved for professional use and prescription is by for specialists in plastic surgery, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, maxillofacial surgery, dermatology, face and neck surgery and ophthalmology.

Azzalure and Vistabel are indicated for aesthetic treatment of shallow wrinkles.

HOW ARE WRINKLES FORMED?

The muscles in your face contract when you laugh, concentrate, close your eyes or frown, forming wrinkles and fine lines called expression lines.

With age, the skin loses its elasticity and these fine lines can become more marked and remain engraved on the face even in the absence of movement. The wrinkles between the eyebrows can be particularly pronounced, and can give you a constant worried or angry look.

HOW TO REDUCE OR HIDE FACE WRINKLES

Deep wrinkles in the face can be corrected by surgery or injections of fillers or drugs such as botulinum toxin type A, or by combining these different methods.

It is according to the location of your wrinkles, the type of wrinkles and their importance that the method is determined and adapted to your case.

WHAT IS BOTULINUM TOXIN TYPE A?

Botulinum toxin type A is a natural bacterial protein. It has the effect, when injected in very small amounts into the muscles, to relax them (temporary paralysis). Other nerve functions such as the sense of touch are not affected.

  • A minimum interval of 3 months should be maintained between the 2 injection sessions.

Before Surgery

A complete examination of your situation will be carried out before any injection in order to determine the indications and the sites of injections best adapted to the treatment of the wrinkles that disturb you.

The risks and side effects will be explained in detail before the procedure.

The areas to be treated will be marked on a diagram and a photographic record will be made to objectify the results after the treatment.

The Process

Botulinum toxin type A injections are done without anesthesia because it is performed with a very small diameter needle and is not painful. You may feel a very small sting at the time of the injections.

The effects of botox are not permanent and require the repetition of the injections 2-3 times a year if one wishes to prolong or maintain the smoothing effect. However, scientific studies show that repeated use of the product tends to lengthen the effectiveness of each treatment and increase the interval between sessions.

This type of treatment is not indicated for the correction of deep wrinkles caused by aging.

Post-Operative Information

Directly after surgery, you may see small bruising or redness at the injection sites. These disappear quickly during the following days. Normal physical activity can be maintained immediately after surgery.

Side effects: Temporary weakness of the eyelids or ptosis (eyelid drooping) can be observed in rare cases. This effect disappears over time when the product loses its effectiveness, since the botulinum toxin has a completely reversible effect over time.
