The placement of a dental implant usually only takes between 40 and 60 minutes.
The procedure is completely painless under local anesthesia.
When the area is sufficiently numbed, the surgeon makes a small incision along the gum to expose the bone and after preparing the site with special instruments, gently inserts the implant and allows the bone to heal without stress for 8 to about 12 weeks.
These different situations depend on each individual situation and will be discussed with the surgeon before any procedure.
Usually an antibiotic is prescribed for a period of one week in order to greatly reduce the risk of infection during the phase of bone healing.
This treatment is preventive and should be started the day before surgery.
For more comfort after surgery, we recommend taking an anti-inflammatory medication one hour before surgery.
These treatments will always be discussed orally with the maxillofacial surgeon who will adapt the medical prescription on a case-by-case basis according to the state of health and medications of each patient.
